Privacy Policy

Effective 19 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Maxium ("Maxium", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use our HSC Mathematics Advanced practice platform (the "Service"). It applies together with our Terms of Use.

Maxium is operated by Alan Cherian (ABN 80 466 116 358), trading as Maxium, as a sole trader based in Australia. References to "Maxium" in this Policy mean Alan Cherian trading as Maxium.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: your name, email address, and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text), or, if you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier, name, email, and profile image as shared by Google.
  • Account type and class details: whether your account is an individual, student, or teacher account, and, where applicable, the class or group your school or teacher has assigned you to.
  • Practice and activity data: the questions you attempt, your answers (including handwritten answers submitted through the practice pad), scores, feedback, topics practised, and study progress over time.
  • Technical information: log and device data such as IP address, browser type, and usage timestamps, and cookies or similar technologies used to keep you signed in and to remember preferences (for example, light/dark theme).

We do not currently collect payment information. Maxium is free to use while paid plans are in development — see section 11 ("Planned features") below.

2. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • provide, maintain, and personalise the Service, including generating questions at an appropriate difficulty and tracking your progress;
  • mark and give feedback on your answers;
  • let teachers and schools view the activity and progress of students in their class, where an account has been provisioned that way;
  • communicate with you about your account, changes to the Service, or support requests;
  • maintain the security and integrity of the Service and prevent misuse; and
  • improve our question generation and marking quality, including using de-identified or aggregated data to evaluate and refine our models.

3. Why we collect and use your information

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, we only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy. We collect and use your information because it is needed to provide the Service you have signed up for, because you have consented (for example, by creating an account or agreeing to a class/school connection), or because it is in our legitimate business interests to operate, secure, and improve the Service in a way that does not unreasonably intrude on your privacy.

4. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Service providers who host our infrastructure (including Supabase for authentication and data storage) or provide AI-model inference used to generate practice questions, under contractual obligations to protect your data and use it only to provide services to us;
  • Your school or teacher, where your account was provisioned as part of a class or group, limited to activity and progress data relevant to that class;
  • Legal and safety purposes, where we are required to by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Maxium, our users, or the public; and
  • A successor entity, if Maxium's business is transferred, sold, or restructured, subject to this Policy continuing to apply to your information.

5. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and maintain session security, and functional cookies (such as local storage) to remember preferences like theme. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though blocking necessary cookies may prevent you from signing in.

6. Data retention

We retain your account and activity data for as long as your account is active, so that your practice history and progress remain available to you. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or security purposes (for example, records needed to resolve a billing dispute).

7. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypting passwords, encrypting data in transit, and restricting access to personal information on a need-to-know basis. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children and school accounts

Maxium is intended for use by HSC students, who are typically in Years 11–12. Where a student account is provisioned by a school or teacher, that school or teacher is responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate consent to do so under their own policies and applicable law. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without appropriate consent, contact us using the details below and we will take reasonable steps to remove that information.

9. Your rights

Under Australian privacy law, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information (much of this you can update directly in your profile);
  • request deletion of your account and associated personal information; and
  • request a copy of your information in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@maxium.app. We may need to verify your identity before actioning a request. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

10. International data transfers

Maxium is intended for use by students and teachers in Australia. However, some of our service providers, including our infrastructure host and AI-model providers, store or process information outside Australia (for example, in the United States). Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to be protected in a manner consistent with this Policy and the Australian Privacy Principles.

11. Planned features

The following are planned for a future version of the Service and are not active today. We will update this Policy, and seek any consent required, before they launch:

  • Paid plans: when introduced, a third-party payment processor will collect your billing details to process payment. We will not store full card numbers on our own servers.
  • AI-assisted marking of handwritten answers: handwritten submissions may in future be automatically marked using an AI model provider on our behalf, in addition to the question generation and marking already described in section 4.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Effective" date above and, where appropriate, by email or in-app notice.

13. Contact us
